Calling All parents in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Do you know how you could support your child with our Mastering Number programme?

As you know, At Exhall Cedars we are on our Maths mastery journey, as part of this journey we are delivering a Mastering Number Programme, which is proving to be essential with your child’s Maths learning.

This programme is delivered 4 times a week for 10 to 15 minutes. It supports developing children’s number sense, number bonds and reasoning skills using specific questions, subitising and concrete resources.

We need to share this programme with you so that you can support your children at home.

The workshop will allow parents to find out about this programme at school and then work with their children to see how it works in action. Parents will be given all the games and resources that are needed to support their children and will be asked to complete these games at home.

The workshop will only be held for one hour and parents will be given the home learning resources for week 1 on the day of the workshop. This is a five week programme but parents only need to attend the workshop in the first week and resources for weeks 2 to 5 will be given out on a weekly basis. There will be a Home learning diary to complete which shows that you have completed the activities.

If you complete the home learning at the end of each week, your child will receive a sticker and 3 dojo points.

If you complete ALL five weeks, your child will receive a sticker, a certificate and 10 dojo points..

On Friday 21st March Exhall Cedars will join thousands of schools up and down the country and do something funny for money for Red Nose Day.

This year Comic Relief hits the big 4-0 and they’re asking the nation to join the party and go big, give big and feel good! Because when we all do a little something funny for money, big beautiful change happens. A donation to Comic Relief this Red Nose Day will support projects that help children be happier, families stronger, women safer, communities prouder and millions of lives fairer.

Here's what we’ve got planned:

IN SCHOOL:

•    Come to school wearing your clothes backwards OR wear something red if you prefer.

•     Designing our own Red Nose characters.

•     Make a friend smile today -Children will be thinking of ways that they can make someone feel good about themselves by creating a ‘Red Nose wall of pictures, notes, jokes etc.

•     Year 1 and 2 will be taking part in the White Rose Red Nose day challenges.

AT HOME:

•     At home you could use the recipes that we have attached to make your own cake (just like Mary Berry) or make some delicious cupcakes.

•     Take photos of your cakes and then send them to admin@welearn365.com or upload them onto your class DOJO.

We know there’s a lot going on right now and for many people things are really tough.

But if you can donate, every penny will add up to a life changing difference.

February 2025

Poet Andy Tooze Visit - Thursday 13th February

On Thursday 13th February we have a special visitor coming to school.

His name is Andy Tooze and he is a published author, known for his poetry. This will be Andy’s third visit to Cedars and we know from previous visits that workshops for the children during the day have been a huge success. Teachers have also found that his ideas have helped them transform the way that we teach poetry to the children.

There will be an assembly at the end of the day, starting at 2.30pm where Andy will share some of the work that he has done with the children. Parents/Carers of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are welcome to attend this assembly.

At the end of the assembly Andy will have copies of his books available, which he will happily sign for you.

The price of these is £5, but it will be cash only purchases.

If you are unable to attend the assembly but would like to purchase a book for your child, then please send £5 in a named envelope and hand it to the class teacher at the start of the day.

Kind regards

Mrs Smith and Miss Evans.

Number Day Competition

It’s time to put your creative skills to the test again and help support your child in helping them to make a Number hanging mobile.

As part of the NSPCC Number day, we are inviting the children to make a mathematical hanging 3d mobile to display around school. This could be using any kind of numerals representing anything they like, such as their birthday, favourite numbers, odd or even numbers or 1- or 2-digit numbers.  It could be based on shapes, measurements or repeating patterns.(There are a few examples below to give you some ideas.)

There will be one prize for the winning entry from each year group. (Reception to Year 2), which will be judged on the NSPCC Number day itself, on Friday 7th February 2025 so get busy and send the finished hanging mobiles in by then.

We look forward to seeing them and will be posting pictures on our website as well hanging them up in our classrooms.

Thank you as always for your support.

December 2024

Christmas Concert 2024 - Tuesday 10th December

 “Bethlehem Bake-Off”

Monday 9th at 1.30pm- Dress Rehearsal

(ONLY for younger siblings/ buggies/ prams)

Tuesday 10th December at 9.30am and 1.30pm

Doors open at 9.20am and 1.20pm

(Adults only/ No children under 4yrs please)

Please complete the paper slip that will be sent home with your child tomorrow, indicating how many tickets you require and for which performance. Only two tickets per family will be allocated initially due to a limit on hall space. Depending on availability, a maximum of 2 extra tickets will be allocated per family.

Younger siblings to ONLY attend the Dress Rehearsal on Monday please!

Due to past experience performances have been severely disrupted with unsettled younger siblings.

This disturbs the children who are performing and distracts the staff who have worked hard to prepare for the performance, it also prevents adults from enjoying watching their own children.

Therefore, during the two performances on Tuesday, younger siblings will not be admitted.

As a solution, if you have a younger child, you are invited to come and watch the final Dress Rehearsal on Monday 9th December at 1.30pm. As there will be better availability of space in the hall, your younger child can remain in their pushchair/pram. Please ensure you complete the slip to get your tickets.

Please return by MONDAY 2nd DECEMBER

(Further tickets will be released on Thursday 5th December, if available)

Please do not request tickets via email.

Physical tickets will be issued after Monday 2nd December and sent home with your child.

Thank you.

November 2024

Thursday 28th November 2024

On Thursday 28th November

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

will take part in a presentation from

Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance crew members.

The local air ambulance service gives people the very best chance of survival and recovery. The helicopter can fly at top speeds of 185mph and carries the very latest lifesaving equipment necessary for the missions they attend.

The operations team is supported by Critical Care Cars, which provide valuable backup for incidents close to the helicopter base, when the weather makes it too dangerous to fly. They also enable our doctors and critical care paramedics to run a night car service to reach those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

In support of this great charity, we will be holding a

'Wear Something Yellow' day.

Yellow is a signature colour for the Local Air Ambulance.

Safe and Active Schools Programme provided by WCC Road Safety Education Team

Our school has signed up to the Safe and Active Schools Programme 2024-2025. As part of the programme all children will be receiving age-appropriate road safety sessions, and we will also be participating in and promoting active travel.

We recognise how important messaging is for our children. Your children copy your actions, and your behaviour serves as a powerful role model. We would like to ask all our families to model the safest behaviours near the road for children to copy and make good choices around travelling actively on the school run.

We will be sharing messages and ideas from the Safe and Active Schools team and further information about the children’s road safety learning in school throughout the year.

For further information about road safety and active travel you can follow or contact the road safety education team.
