Requirement: The amount of the school’s allocation from the pupil premium grant in respect of the current academic year; details of how it is intended that the allocation will be spent; details of how the previous year’s allocation was spend, and the effect of this expenditure on the educational attainment of those pupils at the school in respect of whom grant funding was allocated.

Pupil Premium Entitlement

The Pupil Premium and Service Premium give schools extra funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils from reception to year 11. In order to receive this additional funding we are required to provide information to the Department for Education confirming which children meet the government criteria.

All children eligible for free school meals in the last 6 years
If your child is eligible for free school meals or has been in the last 6 years this will generate pupilpremium funding for your child’s school. To be eligible for free school meals you must be in receipt of the appropriate benefits (listed below) and have submitted an application for free school meals.

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual
• Gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

If you qualify for the appropriate benefits but have chosen not to apply for free school meals please consider applying. You do not have to take up the free school meal to attract the funding for your child’s school. Free school meals cannot be backdated so you should only apply if you currently qualify.

Children that are adopted or leave care under a Special Guardianship Order or a Residence Order
From April 2014, schools in England can receive the Pupil Premium for children adopted from care, or who left care under a Special Guardianship Order on or after 30 December 2005. School can also claim for children who left care under a Residence Order on or after 14 October 1991.
It is up to those with parental responsibility to decide if they wish the school to know whether their
child is adopted, or is under a special guardianship order or residence order. If you would like to
enable us to claim this premium, you will need to inform us about your child and provide supporting
evidence, for example, provide the original Adoption (Court) Order.

Children who have been looked after for 1 day or more
Additional pupil premium funding is available to schools for children who have been in care for 1 day or more. The Local Authority provides this information to the Department for Education.

Service Premium
Pupils are eligible for service premium if they are an Ever 6 service child. For 2019 to 2020, this means
that either:

• One of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces, and this is registered in the January 2019 census or
• They have been registered as a service child in any school census since January 2014
• Pupils can also qualify for the premium if one of their parents died while serving in the armedbforces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) or the War Pensions Scheme (WPS).

If your child meets one of the above Service Premium criteria please let us know as this will enable us to claim this additional funding.

The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable.  It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.

The impact of PPG monies are rigorously tracked by a ‘Closing the Gap Team’. This team includes the Head Teacher, the Assessment Manager, The Inclusion Coordinator, The Family Learning Mentor and a Designated Governor with responsibility for PPG. The team meets every half term to review individual data of the children accessing these interventions. Interventions are reviewed and modified according to need with FSM (Free School Meal) children being tracked particularly closely. Analysis of intervention group data compared to the cohort demonstrates that interventions have a positive impact on pupil progress, with pupils often making better progress than those not in the intervention.
